Sterling Ranch taps CenturyLink

“This truly is the first 21st century community in Colorado,” he said.

By hiring an operator for a community-owned network at Sterling Ranch, developers hope to ensure the development can demand the highest performance and get the latest technologies from its internet provider.

Comcast and other telecom companies will be able to build networks into Sterling Ranch and win customers there. Residents of the development will have to pay a one-time fee to chose a provider other than CenturyLink and would lose some smart-home functionality, Smethills said.

Lumiere Fiber is working with IBM, Siemens AG, Corning, Denver-based Jiggsa, LLC and other companies to design and build the network.
